For those who are not familiar, “Baath” or “Bathika” is a traditional cake from Goa, India. It’s made with two main ingredients being semolina commonly know as “rava” and coconut. One can also add spices. Traditionally this cake was baked in a stove top clay oven with hot coals placed on the lid in Goan homes.
My grandmother taught me the recipe during the Covid quarantine period. I hope you too can enjoy it!!

Now its time to add Baking Soda and Vanilla Essence
8. Add 2 caps vanilla Essence i.e 2.5 ml of Vanilla Essence(Half A Teaspoon)

9. Add 1 Tea Spoon of Baking Soda (5 ML)

10. Mix the mixture well!!

Greasing the Cake Tin
While creasing the cake tin for other cakes we layer the cake tin with butter, but for this cake you will layer it with a thin layer of semolina(rava). This gives colour the cake and also a crust.
- Apply a thin layer of butter all around the cake.

2. Add the semolina part by part all around the cake tin. Make sure it spreads evenly all around. You can use the trick shown below

Baking the Cake
- Add your batter in the greased cake tin. Let it smoothen and even out around the tin on its own.

2. Put it in the oven

Bake the cake in the oven for 45 minutes until the cake is goldenish brown. You can keep it in for a little longer to get a fine layer of crust on the top.
Enjoy!!
