It is an old Goan tradition to serve food for the poor. The underprivileged people all sit together and are served Goan food.
Thankfully, in the recent years there has been a decrease in the number of poor people. But that has not killed the villagers spirits to have a reason to cook and eat together as a community and invite any underprivileged and senior citizens for lunch.
Primarily, The food is very much Goan consisting of curry dishes, vegetables, meat, fish, and pickles.

Samrachi Kodi is a goan curry made for special events such as weddings and funerals. It has a black shade. It consists of dried prawns also known as kismoor in Goa.

ChickPeas is used in a heavy vegetable dishes. There are many ways of cooking it . Personally I believe that having a single vegetable and making so many kinds of dishes out of it. Is the cooking creativity. How creative and artistic you can be while cooking .

Tendli – the ivy gourd is a tropical vine. Tendli has a crunchy feeling in your mouth with a hint of sour taste. Tendli is cooked with onion and tomatoes with a sprinkle of grated coconut.



“GoadShem” is a goan sweet dish that can be had as a dessert or a snack. It is made of different dals and jaggery. Different regions of goa can have different ways of preparing it and hence varying taste of the Godshem across Goa. This dish is mainly found in houses during religious and festive events. Personally, GoadShem is my favorite dessert and I love the taste of it
The Island Divar is where I live, in 2018 , towards the end of December I went for Bhikarache Jevon as a local villager. Here are some pictures I took.

This is how we ate our food. It was pleasant and fun. There was music played and there were also drinks for the elders.

They not only help the poor but they also use sponsored money of the villagers to buy bags of rice grains for the poor people and the old age homes.

This act of empathy is something that has made me wonder about easy and simple it is to help and secure a futuristic community.
